These nymphs and egg patterns are all designed for steelhead and salmon in the Great Lakes region and are the patterns that we use here in Michigan. The method that we use to fish these flies for steelhead/salmon is either by the use of a floating line & strike indictor or a deep water nymphing technique using a running line and split shot. These methods can be fished most effectively with 9' to 10' fly rods. Typically on the larger rivers the long rods are used. For steelhead 7wt. or 8wt. and for salmon 9wt. are most common. The hook size of each fly is our most commonly used size. If you do want patterns in different sizes than listed you can special order them by email at sales@michiganstreamside.com or by phone at 989-848-5983. Typically special orders can be shipping in ten days. Shipping free on all order! |

Egg patterns are very popular flies here in the Great Lakes region for steelhead and salmon. In the fall salmon enter many of our rivers to make there spawning runs up stream. This is a huge source of eggs throughout many of our rivers and makes up a big portion of the river steelheads diet. A good way to fish these egg patterns is in combination with the nymphs. Fish eggs and nymphs about 2' apart. For steelhead egg patterns are top producer during fall, winter and spring. When rivers are high and dirty use larger and brighter patterns. Low and clear go with small and pale colors. The hook size of each fly is our most commonly used size.
